The Pottery Restauant is Open Again

The Pottery Restaurant in the Blue Mountain Inn is open for dinner again and we decided to head on over to one of our preferred dining destinations to check out and enjoy their new seasonally inspired menu.

We were seated at our favourite table right by the four-sided fireplace which offered up the perfect cozy and romantic setting to enjoy our date night.

Dawn our server has been at The Pottery for 10 years, which is remarkable in itself and she’s the ‘baby’! Carolyn has been there for over 32 years which we think is pretty incredible.

We started our meal with a delicious mini loaf of warm rosemary focaccia, served with lemon infused herb butter.

Chef Oleg Bozovich, heads up the kitchen team at The Pottery and he was able to pop out and chat with us for a little while. We asked him what he’s been up to while the restaurant has been closed and he explained that he’s moved around the resort as different food and beverage options have opened and closed with the seasons including the Kandahar Restaurant Inn CafĂ© during the winter and the Summit View Pavilion at the top of Blue during the summer months.

Chef Oleg celebrated his 5th anniversary working for Blue Mountain Resort in September and in August, he and his wife Christine welcomed their first child, baby boy Luka to the world! Congratulations!

For our appetizer we split a sizable Pottery signature Caesar salad with chopped romaine hearts, double-smoked bacon lardons, parmesan padano, garlic & black pepper croutons and house-made creamy garlic dressing. The salad had the perfect balance of dressing, a tangy zip from the parmesan and the house made croutons added a nice crunch.

For our mains we selected:

Stuffed Chicken Pappardelle, free-range Ontario chicken supreme, leek, baby spinach, feta, parmesan Padano, pappardelle, grape tomato & mushroom marsala cream.

Bone-In Pork Chop, a 10oz house-smoked pork chop with a butternut squash and apple puree, fresh potato salad and corn succotash.

We spit a delectable Chocolate Lava Cake for the finish to a wonderful meal.

The Pottery offers an elevated casual dining experience with exceptional customer service.

Open for breakfast daily from 7AM – Noon, and for dinner from Thursday – Sunday 5PM – 9PM.

THE POTTERY STORY

The Pottery Restaurant is named after the original Blue Mountain Pottery found on display in the dining room. They are original examples of the famous product produced by Jozo Weider, the founder of Blue Mountain Resort.

From its earliest beginnings in the Blue Mountain Ski Barn during the early 1950’s, Blue Mountain Pottery expanded into an enterprise supplementing Jozo’s ski operation by being a year-round revenue generator. In the beginning, visitors to the showrooms were frequently entertained by Jozo or other craftsmen demonstrating their art using a potter’s wheel.

Lemonwood Luxury Inc. ("Lemonwood") proprietor of one of Canada's fastest growing natural apparel and accessories boutiques, is pleased to announce its Collingwood Grand Opening

Lemonwood Luxury Inc. ("Lemonwood") proprietor of one of Canada's fastest growing natural apparel and accessories boutiques, is pleased to announce its Collingwood Grand Opening on Saturday, November 14th at its newest location conveniently located in the heart of historic downtown Collingwood on the Southwest corner of 72 Hurontario Street - forming part of Miller Goodman Dental's beautifully restored Trott's Furniture building (c. 1880) and directly across from Collingwood's renowned Prime Seven Nine restaurant.

Celebrations begin at 9:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the weekend and over the balance of the ensuing week with delicious locally produced Seasonal Hot Cinnamon spiced Apple Cider, Scandinavian Butter cookies and many other complimentary treats, not to mention Grand Opening Special Pricing on all collections. We'd love you to come on by for a visit, even if simply to say "welcome to our neighborhood"!

Lemonwood is expanding rapidly, with four retail locations in Oakville, Rosedale/Summerhill, Port Carling and now historic downtown Collingwood, as well as serving the rest of Canada, the USA and internationally through its ecommerce offerings. Its retailing philosophy is "elegance & simplicity" on all levels - Scandinavian inspired boutiques that are bright and airy, with clean lines and uncluttered, at their core Modern Day fashion salons that emphasize personal service, that are built around all things wonderfully Cashmere (over 100 different styles and 80 different colours of poncho's wraps, scarves and shawls sweaters and more) and rounded out by beautiful clothing accessories (including designer masks), all curated from around the world, affordable luxuries presented by welcoming and knowledgeable personnel.

"Founded By Women For Women" (though to be clear and in no particular order of importance lol: men and pooches are also welcome too! - check out the luxurious Men's Cashmere sweater lines and wonderfully warm Cashmere Doggie Vest selections), founder Christine Peters, originally a Lethbridge girl, is a serial entrepreneur who has devoted her entire professional life to sourcing and product development (her personal life being devoted mainly to her twin boys Nickie and Sascha!)

Christine is passionate about luxurious fabrics that tickle the senses, affordable luxuries sourced directly from manufacturers, where possible from women owned businesses crafting aligned clothing and accessories, championing Canadian designers and keenly focused (sans lip service) on sustainability such as natural dyes, recycled and organic materials.

When asked why Lemonwood has struck a chord and is expanding when many of her competitors are folding in the current retailing environment, Christine stated:

"COVID has pivoted our customers away from the corporate treadmill, to Lemonwood Luxury72 Hurontario Street Collingwood, focusing on themselves, i.e. health of self and family first. After that it is to brightening up their hearths and homes and finally after that comes personal treats and rewards, and that's where Lemonwood fits the bill: with travel essentially locked down, entertaining more difficult, malls subject to attendance caps, with spouses and kids at home clambering for much deserved TLC, a little Retail Therapy every now and again from your local vendor is needed, now more than ever and Lemonwood provides just that. For those of you who don't already know us, we'd love to get to know you: come on in and try us on for size!"

All You Can Eat Mussels at The Pottery every Tuesday

We were tipped off that The Pottery Restaurant; one of our local favourite dining establishments is now offering all-you-can-eat Mussels every Tuesday evening, so Dan and I thought we’d check it out.
We were professionally greeted by Ellie at the hostess stand, a lovely young lady who is visiting our area from the UK, and working at her first job in the food and beverage industry. She led us to what happens to be our favourite table at The Pottery, right in front of the massive fireplace that was throwing off some night heat on a chilly winter evening.
We were delighted to find that Carol Thompson was our server for the evening. Carol is a Team Lead at The Pottery and has been working at Blue Mountain Resort for over 30 years which we think is really quite incredible. Carol offers amazing customer service, is very knowledgeable about the menu offerings and it’s always a delight to see her.
Carol explained that they were offering two varieties of mussels to choose from. We could order either Beer & Bruschetta Mussels made with Creemore Springs Lot 9 or the Red Thai Curry Mussels. As both choices were something neither Dan nor I had ever tasted, we decided to order a pound of each to start with.
We ordered a nice, very reasonably priced bottle of wine to kick off dinner and a lovely little loaf of Rosemary Focaccia bread, with dipping oil, infused with herbs and chili flakes arrived at our table. Absolutely delicious!
The main event, one pound of steaming hot mussels for each of us was served in beautiful bowls with more bread for dipping. The aroma was fantastic! Half-way through, we swapped bowls so that each of us could try each variety. They were absolutely delicious! My favourite was the Beer & Bruschetta Mussels and Dan liked the Red Thai Curry Mussels the best, so much so, he ordered another ½ pound.
We were lucky that Chef Oleg Bazavic, had time to pop out of the kitchen to see how we enjoyed our meal. It was really nice to be able to meet him, find out a little bit more about his culinary journey and discover how he made his way to Blue Mountain. It turns out that Chef Oleg moved to Canada with his family when he was 7 years old from Serbia. He did his culinary training at the Niagara Food & Wine Institute with co-op placements in Muskoka and achieved his Red Seal Chef certification in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Like so many people that move to the area, Chef Oleg loves to ski and tries to get out on slopes as often as he can. He’s recently engaged and looking forward to his upcoming wedding in August at one of our local wineries.
We look forward to returning to The Pottery soon as it’s always a fantastic dining experience, and lucky us, just around the corner from where we live.

On Screen at Meaford Hall

On the Screen Thursday Flicks is back for the 2019 season with 6 amazing films kicking off January 10th!
First on the screen is Colette, after marrying a successful Parisian writer known commonly as "Willy" Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette is moved from her childhood home in rural France to the intellectual and artistic splendor of Paris. She agrees to ghostwrite a semi-autobiographical novel for her husband and after its success it inspires her to fight for creative ownership and overcome the societal constraints of the early 20th century.
Starting February off on the 7th is Juliet, Naked. Based on the novel by Nick Hornby, Juliet, Naked is a comic account of life's second chances as Annie who is stuck in a long-term relationship with Duncan, an obsessive fan of obscure rocker Tucker Crowe, is lead to a life-changing encounter with the elusive rocker himself.

After nearly forty years of marriage, Joan and Joe Castleman are complements. Where Joe is casual, Joan is elegant. And where Joe enjoys his very public role as Great American Novelist, Joan pours her considerable intellect, grace, charm, and diplomacy into the private role of Great Man's Wife. The Wife interweaves the story of the couple's youthful passion and ambition with a portrait of a marriage, thirty-plus years later--a lifetime's shared compromises, secrets, betrayals, and mutual love. Catch The Wife when it takes the screen February 21st!
A Star is Born makes its way to the screen on March 7th. Both musically-inclined and internally broken, Jackson and Ally are lovers of an unshakable bond. Undoubtedly gifted yet sorely despondent, Ally is ready to abandon her dreams of becoming an artist. Fortunately, Jackson's unbridled love won't allow for such. In a last-ditch effort to revive her hopes, Jackson convinces Ally to continue pursuing her goals. As Ally's musical career begins to thrive, their relationship is marred by Jackson's conflicting emotions and toxic alcoholism.
March 21st The Old Man & The Gun takes the screen. Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker, from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt, who becomes captivated with Forrest's commitment to his craft, and a woman, who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.
Ending the Winter/Spring Thursday Flicks on April 4th is Widows, a story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica, Alice, Linda and Belle take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.

Christmas Shopping in the Blue Mountain Village with Andrew and Meghan

We decided to go on a tour of the retail shops in the Blue Mountain Village to see what kind of unique gifts we could find. Andrew Siegwart and Meghan Harwood came along to introduce us to some of the shop owners, do a bit of modeling and taste testing.  We had a ridiculous amount of fun and found some pretty great Christmas gifts that will take care of everyone on your list.

Did you know that most shops in the Blue Mountain Village are open from 10AM until 9PM daily, including Christmas Day?  Plus you can take in the Blumination Dream Trail each evening from 5PM-10PM with a spectacular light show in the events plaza each evening at 6PM, 7PM, 8PM and 9PM.

One of our first stops was Madison Clothing Boutique.  They've got some great 2-for-1 offers on tights, scarves and more so you can check off two people on your list or make someone twice as happy.

We stopped in at the Pepper Palace...hot hot hot...with great gift packs. Everything is hand-crafted, made in small batches with all natural ingredients. Surprisingly, not everything will burn your tongue off.  Though, from this point forward Andrew is now 'Andrew the Brave'.

Next we were on to Crock-a-Doodle.  If you're inspired to create this season, this is the place to do it for sure.  Most people really really appreciate a hand made gift because it's thoughtful and truly unique.  If you're pressed for time (and who isn't at this time of year?) you can always snag a gift card and gift someone a fantastic, creative experience. Remember those ceramic Christmas trees your aunt or grandmother would bring out once a year?  Now you can create one of your very own.

Get into the holiday spirit at Georgian Christmas.  Find out what the pickle ornament is all about. Apparently this old tradition is making quite the comeback.  They've also got a fabulous sale on ornaments.

And if you've got a Harry Potter fan on your shopping list, pop by Georgian Christmas so you can fill that wish.  They've got a great selection of Harry Potter figurines.

Next, we hopped on over Gabby Isabella, an established Canadian women's clothing store and they've got a great incentive...free gift with purchase! These gorgeous gloves have a retail value of $59.00.

Do you know someone that wants a hippopotamus for Christmas?  You're in luck because Reiner's Origianls have these very cool hand crafted leather ottomans designed and made in Canada. They come in all sorts of shapes and designs.

Next I needed to find something warm and cozy for my husband who is always freezing, so we headed off to North Face to find something cozy, warm and fashionable.

IWA Spa has a lovely boutique and we discovered that they are now the exclusive Lululemon retail partner in the Blue Mountain Village.  In addition to great clothes and accessories, you can purchase the gift of exerience and buy someone on your list a gift certificate for spa services.  Their facials are absolutely incredible and their Gan-ban Volcanic Rock Therapy is relaxing and rejuvinating.  This multi-award winning spa also offers massages, so a gift certificate for a couples massage is a great gift for the busy, hard-to-buy-for couple that seems to never take time for themselves.

Oh, and wait, they also offer a wonderful selection of body and facial care products and Andrew found exactly what he was looking for with their beard care packages. He's definately channelling his Blue Steel look.

Next, we checked out Sinergy Clothing and we found sporty leisure clothing for women and men and we also found some pretty funny sweatshirts.  Gift in style with their brands: Champion, Fox Racing, Born Rich, and My Package

Phew!  Well that certainly kept us busy for the morning.  Time for a lunch break at Firehall Pizza.  Love their salads...and their pizza too.

Stay tuned for our afternoon shopping adventure.  We found more great shopping solutions and look forward to sharing them with you in my next post.

The countdown to Christmas is on and we're on it!

Christmas Day Feast in Collingwood

It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas! The fifth annual Christmas Day Feast, Tuesday, December 25th, 1 p.m. at the Collingwood Curling Club is coming together with tremendous support from local business owners, individual supporters and over 100volunteers. Chairperson, Marg Scheben-Edey said, “We are grateful for the continuing support of the community to make this event possible.” The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Collingwood!

The planning committee, made up of 12 elves, has been hard at work since September planning logistics, fund raising, arranging rentals, food, entertainment and organizing volunteers.

Community Partners to date include The Rotary Club of Collingwood, Collingwood Curling Club, Men with Knives Catering, Chef Simon Bailey, Northwinds Brewhouse & Kitchen, Giffen’s Country Market, Tim Hortons, Sobeys, Eggsmart, The Print Shop, Meridian, Community Connection and Ace Cabs. Many more have provided financial support and resources to make this event memorable for all who attend!

The event is FREE and ALL are welcome to the Community Feast! Whether new to town or far away from family, Christmas can be a lonely time, and for others, financial or emotional barriers may make it difficult to put together a Christmas dinner. Some people simply want to enjoy holiday cheer with others in the community. The event is non-denominational and
open to all ages. Reservations are required as we are limited to 140 seats, and can be made by calling 211 (Community Connection).

The main attraction, “the feast” will include a home-style meal with all the trimmings, seasonal entertainment, activities for children and a little something for the adults to take home.

Canadian Pet Connection: Grey-Bruce’s Pet Health Experts

Pets can enrich our lives in unique, and irreplaceable ways. Whether it’s a dog, cat, guinea pig, or mini pig, pet lovers everywhere can attest, there is no substitute for the bond shared between people and their pets.
As the saying goes, “Do something you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life”. That’s why, in 1993, Lorne Forder left his career in Toronto’s financial district, and started Canadian Pet Connection - one of Canada’s first pet health food stores, located in Oakville, Ontario.
Lorne’s passion for the pet industry started with his black Labs, whom he adored, trained and competed with in dog training and agility events. In an effort to find healthy products to help his dogs perform at peak levels, Lorne became frustrated with the lack of high quality, human-grade pet foods and supplements available in his area. In fact, many people in the professional dog-showing community were travelling south of the border to purchase better quality foods for their furry friends.
Lorne believed healthy pet products should be available to all pet owners. Canadian Pet Connection began with one retail location in Oakville, and grew into two brick-and-mortar stores, complete with professional grooming facilities, as well as a distribution centre. 2017 brought many changes, and with that came a new business model embracing the growth of ecommerce. The assets of those locations were sold to allow the business to relocate to the small town of Meaford, Ontario.
Over that last 30 years, Lorne, alongside his son Brandon, have acquired extensive knowledge pertaining to pet health. This includes pet diet and nutrition, supplementation, and holistic approaches to treating a myriad of animal health ailments. Brandon and Lorne have established themselves as experts in pet problem solving: everything from food allergies and sensitivities, to unwanted behavioural problems, including leash aggression, barking, anxiety, and more.
Canadian Pet Connection’s retail outlet in Meaford is located right beside the Meaford Factory Outlet. There, they offer high-quality, human-grade pet foods, supplements, treats, toys and accessories. They also offer free delivery from Collingwood to Owen Sound, and all the areas in between.
Since moving the business to Meaford, this small family business has shifted their primary focus to e-commerce. In fact, their online store, found at www.canadianpetconnection.ca, is quickly becoming one of Canada’s largest, and fastest-growing e-commerce pet retail sites.
Do you need expert pet health and nutrition advice? Call or visit the pet experts in-store today!

As an artist, I provide one-of-a-kind wearable and usable art, that elevates, inspires, and encourages a unique sense of style. Black Harvest Returns

The tradition of Halloween and the Black Harvest Festival continues in historically Chilling Downtown Collingwood this October, with Witches (and Warlocks) of the ‘Wood taking over the town. Mark Saturday October 27th on your calendar and prepare to come downtown to see what is brewing.

As the toe of newt and the eye of frog are added to the cauldron of Halloween festivities, the downtown streets will be decked out in all things frightening…. from Pumpkins and creatures of the night, to the feature attraction, Witches and Warlocks. The spirit of the season has also taken over many of the businesses; check out all the windows to see who has been put under the spell of the spirits.

Starting at 11 a.m. activities will begin along Hurontario Street to put even the most skeptic of creature into the haunted mood; awaiting is a cauldron of activities. You can also create your own spine- chilling Halloween craft to take home or watch as balloons are twisted into ghosts. As the town hall clock strikes 1 pm all good little Witches and Warlocks and their friends will gather at the town hall for a costume contest for various age categories…. Judged by the Head Witch and Warlock!

Of course, our downtown merchants invite all the costumed good little girls and boys children to come for some early trick or treating….. just look for the Orange ‘Witch’ signs on the door or window to find out who has treats inside!

This family orientated Halloween day is a Collingwood tradition, join us, or else....
