On Screen at Meaford Hall
On the Screen Thursday Flicks is back for the 2019 season with 6 amazing films kicking off January 10th!
First on the screen is Colette, after marrying a successful Parisian writer known commonly as "Willy" Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette is moved from her childhood home in rural France to the intellectual and artistic splendor of Paris. She agrees to ghostwrite a semi-autobiographical novel for her husband and after its success it inspires her to fight for creative ownership and overcome the societal constraints of the early 20th century.
Starting February off on the 7th is Juliet, Naked. Based on the novel by Nick Hornby, Juliet, Naked is a comic account of life's second chances as Annie who is stuck in a long-term relationship with Duncan, an obsessive fan of obscure rocker Tucker Crowe, is lead to a life-changing encounter with the elusive rocker himself.
After nearly forty years of marriage, Joan and Joe Castleman are complements. Where Joe is casual, Joan is elegant. And where Joe enjoys his very public role as Great American Novelist, Joan pours her considerable intellect, grace, charm, and diplomacy into the private role of Great Man's Wife. The Wife interweaves the story of the couple's youthful passion and ambition with a portrait of a marriage, thirty-plus years later--a lifetime's shared compromises, secrets, betrayals, and mutual love. Catch The Wife when it takes the screen February 21st!
A Star is Born makes its way to the screen on March 7th. Both musically-inclined and internally broken, Jackson and Ally are lovers of an unshakable bond. Undoubtedly gifted yet sorely despondent, Ally is ready to abandon her dreams of becoming an artist. Fortunately, Jackson's unbridled love won't allow for such. In a last-ditch effort to revive her hopes, Jackson convinces Ally to continue pursuing her goals. As Ally's musical career begins to thrive, their relationship is marred by Jackson's conflicting emotions and toxic alcoholism.
March 21st The Old Man & The Gun takes the screen. Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker, from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Wrapped up in the pursuit are detective John Hunt, who becomes captivated with Forrest's commitment to his craft, and a woman, who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.
Ending the Winter/Spring Thursday Flicks on April 4th is Widows, a story of four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica, Alice, Linda and Belle take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.
